Stupidity doesn’t have a favorite politic. Even if people nowadays use Right-Wing as an insult, the Left Wing Ideologies aren’t untainted. Like my father says all extreme are bad. Even if its base is social equality and egalitarianism, it’s not idiot-proof. For example, Socialism is a left-wing system, and we all know the bloody dictatorships it has brought. That’s why I firmly believe in the Horshoe Theory. One of the areas where I have found the most embarrassing actions from Extremist Left could be in the War against Racism. Don’t get me wrong, I find Racism, Xenophobia and similar hatreds as pretty childish bullshit totally obsolete and damaging in all senses, but, like with the War in Drugs, there are a lot of “Knights in Horses” fighting in it screwing things up. While there are so many people genuinely combating miserable idiots wanting to harm other for the cheesiest reasons possible, there are a shit ton of assholes who make pretty dumbass things without really having in clear what “Racism” is about. Thanks to Internet, we have been able to see many examples thanks to Social Media aiding Extremist to kindle the fire of stupid and forced controversies. Yes, I’m talking about the infamous Social Justice Warriors. And because many of these people are imbeciles without any courage, instead of attacking real racists, real criminals and real crimes, they go for the most harmless offenders trying to pretend to be heroes. This wouldn’t be so bad if at the hunted “crimes” had at least some obvious bad intentions. For this people, it looks almost like Racism was when white people talked about other races. A favorite victim of them is totally media. Yes, Fictional Works are no innocent with respect to Racism. Because art imitates life, it was normal to find movies, TV Shows Comics, Books, and Cartoons with only white people or with blackface, and the stereotypes weren’t a big deal. However, thanks God we have advanced. Even if many don’t want to recognize it, we live in a better world than decades ago. Of course, there are still nutcases who really want to harm other races with media, however, the most famous controversies are, pretty coincidentally, the cheesiest cases. This look just like stupid people being stupid people, but this has proven that it can reach dangerous levels; with one of the most famous example being the case of Paige Paz. Sadly, this is a very dumb trend that won’t go for a time, for example, we had a clear example with this recent movie, which only tried to diversify the Movie Universe of Disney, even bringing us this new non-white Disney Princess. For this Friday:

    Moana, from “Moana”.

Since I watched “Wreck-it-Ralph” in theater, I realized Disney was back with its Animated Movies. Therefore, no matter the plot, I decided to watch every movie created by Walt Disney Animation Studios in cinemas, and I don’t regret this. I gave a chance to masterpieces as “The Princess and the Frog” and “Tangled”, enjoyed “Frozen”, had some fun with “Big Hero 6”, and I was blown away with “Zootopia”. Speaking of the last case, Disney actually managed to gave us two animated film in a single year back in 2016. So, while we enjoyed “Zootopia” in Spring, we said farewell to Autumn with “Moana”.

Even if “Zootopia” cleared showed itself as the best of the year, “Moana” still managed to get some recognition. Aside of good critics and being a success at the box office, a particular feature of it was the fact of bringing a new Disney Princess, Moana; even if she still needs to be certified as one…like Anna and Elsa? What the fuck? If Mulan could be one, why can’t they? Fuck you, Disney! But I digress.

So, it looked like Walt Disney Animation Studios over accomplished itself in 2016. It didn’t only bring 2 animated films in a single year, but they also offered a new candidate for Disney Princess. What could possible go wrong? You don’t have any idea! Believe it or not, this movie caused controversy. And no, not like the one made by “Frozen” by saturating the market. “Real” and “big-deal” controversy who actually managed to anger “important” people.

You see, first, Disney committed the great and unforgivable mistake of talking about another culture. Because, just for being American, many idiots consider Disney a “White-Company”, even if I’m pretty sure a lot of black, Latin, and even Asian, people work there.

Even before putting a foot on theater, many imbeciles, sadly many from Polynesian Islands themselves, accused this movie of “Cultural Apropriation”; because Disney has never made a movie about other non-American culture, except “Mulan”, “The Three Caballeros”, “Aladdin”, or, you know, “Snowhite”, “Pinocchio”…

However, one of the complaints that made laugh the most, is how they accused the film of “cherry-picking” aspects of the Polynesian Island to create a fantasy culture. Yes, what did this film thought it was? A fictional work in a fictional land? They were angry they were blending all the cultures of Polynesia in a single land, and other bullshit like that.

Oh, and they also didn’t like they promoted Polynesia like this because they were encouraging “American Colonialism”, promoting Polynesia as only a tourist attraction form foreigners, etc. Yeah, Disney was a big asshole for wanting to represent the Pacific as a beautiful land.

However, one of the stupidest point of this hatred for this film had to be with the Maui Costume. I already talked about it in a pretty long journal I made a year ago, so let’s pass it.

...I think we need to talk about this a little deeper.

The first detail I want to point out to all these dumbasses. Guys: it’s a FUCKING MOVIE!!! That’s it. It simplifies the Polynesian Cultures, it didn’t have a heroic goddess (no, wait, it fucking had!), it fetishes these lands for foreign tourists (sniff, sniff, mmm, it smells to “Xenophobia”), it promotes brownface with a costume (no, it didn’t). So what?! It’s just a stupid film, made to entertain kids. Like currency, it only has the value we gave it to it. Wanting to pretend to defend a “minority” culture, you just fell to the level of Internet Trolls and those Parental Guardians and Geek Characters TV Shows make fun of.

So, this movie didn’t represent the Polynesian Culture as it should. A little question: do “Frozen” managed to give a fair slice of cheese to Norway History? The same with “Beauty and the Beast” with France, “Pinocchio” with Italy, etc. I’m pretty sure this people are going to say “Those don’t count! They are white-countries. We’re speaking of minorities”. OK, fuck you, if you say Polynesia is a vast land of different tones of culture, languages and people, you don’t have the right to refer them insultingly as “Minorities”. Fuck you to the Hell and back! But lowering to your level, “Mulan” is not a good tribute to Ancient China Culture, but it’s such a beloved film until this day.

A big mistake here is that these people think the star in the movie is the culture dealing with, but it’s not: that’s the characters. Even if it’s important to establish the world, the protagonists, villains and secondary characters are more important.

How I wished this was like the case with Speedy Gonzalez, where a bunch of non-Mexican people wanted to be offended for all Mexico for a character who was brave, a womanizer, and speed as the devil, while totally ignoring how the authentic Mexican adored him. But no, unfortunately, many Polynesian themselves, wanting to act as the majority (irony), jumped into this stupid anger bandwagon, even before seeing the fucking movie.

So, after all this storm of stupidity and piss, how was actually the movie “Moana”? Easy…GOOD. Not better than “Frozen” or “Zootopia”, but a great film. It had a good story, good character, amazing animation, and it was great in creating a fictional culture based in existing ones. You don’t like it, guys, that’s OK. I didn’t like “Coco”, and that’s fine by me.

So, let’s go with Moana already.

Well, sadly, even if I didn’t dislike her or anything similar, Moana is just OK for me. It was showed as a girl who wanted get out of her island for thirts of adventure, but we have already seen this with other Disney Princesses.

She really didn’t have something unique Elsa or Anna, but she was OK.

Still, I wanted to draw Moana as a Toy Girl.

For this work, I decided to draw the Child Avatar of Moana, who appeared in the middle of the song of “Where You Are”.

Seeing all the concept for the ocean of the film, I used Waterbending as an inspiration for the scene. I put Moana doing a waterbender pose on a rock, while many whales angrily crashed against the stone. I just loved this!

About the character, I struggled with finding good samples for the clothing, seeing I only had that song as reference. Therefore, I had to simplify the design, I hope I don’t anger any prissy Polynesian.

SJW’s, if you think you are helping to fight racism by doing stupid things likes, sorry, you aren’t. There are still sadly many imbeciles who will willingly discriminate or harm other human being for his/her race, nationality, religion, believes, etc. Go ahead and server yourselves, because attacking films for this corny reasons won’t do a shit. However, if you still want a film which really makes justice to Polynesian Culture, ehre’s a good idea: make one yourselves, exactly as you want it. Don’t whine your way to have one, that’s not how you get things. Remember, if you want to see the extinction of racism once for all, then stop worrying about race, and just see people as people, and be concerned more about being a good person than demanding others to be “political- correct”, because “Cuteness shall last”.

OK, we’re finally done. Man, it was a lot of shit today. See you next time! But, before leaving, let’s talk a little about the next Toy Girl. Who is going to be? We’re going next Friday to the exotic lands of Brazil. Oddly enough, they are doing pretty well at animation. Next week, we’re going to meet a big friend. A big, big friend.
