Description

Hello, everyone, I’m mickeyelric11 and I bring you another piece for The Catalogue Series of my Project Toy Girls. So let’s not waste any more time!

What’s one of the smartest moves a creator can make in an animated show or any work of fiction in general? Develop more characters aside your main one. Plenty of slice of life shows put effort in giving a deep personality and even some episodes to star on to other characters beside the protagonist, giving more complexity to their shows and giving the public more option to identify with. This is the case of this show, and this girl is the biggest example of what I have said. For this Saturday:

Helga G. Pataki, from “Hey Arnold!”, asked by a another college classmate.

I really don’t want to talk about Hey Arnold right now, because I’m going to publish another character of its in The Shelf Series. So let’s skip to Helga.

Sincerely, Helga could be the best character o Hey Arnold. Nothing wrong with the main protagonist or their friends, but what happens is that Helga is the most complex and most interesting kid in the story. She got a really tragic life and plenty of actual problems at home. Then we got her personality.

In my opinion, Helga could be one of the few Tsunder Girls done right. Portrayed as the though girl at her school, she secretly has a giant crush on the main character Arnold, however, being afraid of having her feelings hurt, she hides her feeling towards him by bullying him, especially with her catchphrase “Fooball Head!”; this is why no one ever has to attempt to make a live action movie of this show.

However, what makes this character work is how she is executed in the story. Yes, she bullies Arnold so he never know that she is in love with him, BUT, she only does that when he comes across her, she never goes directly to pick on him (that’s why episodes like “April’s Fools Day” and “Problem Girl” sucks balls); the creators made plenty of reasons to explain her violent behavior being the unfavorite child obscured by the perfect Big Sister, an idiot father with plenty of flaws in moral, and an alcoholic mother; and, THE MOS IMPORTANT MATTER, she ALWAYS has crap thrown at her and never gets away with her evil schemes, SHE ALWAYS LOSE (and that’s why “Love and Cheese” sucks horse balls).

Perfectly balanced, perfectly explained, and flawlessly punished, Helga ends up so likeable s she doesn’t destroy the stories and ends up like the Favorite Character of many; and that’s why plenty of people support ArnoldxHelga Ship.

I knew someday will ask me for her, so I was really excited when I finally had to make a Toy Girl from Helga G. Pataki.

The hardest part for me really was to choose the right pose. It needed to look though but funny at the same time. So why not the classical getting ready for battle for rolling the sleeve of her blouse, it was perfect.

Even having a standard base, I knew I could left out the infamous monobrown. Yes, it was to make the character look ugly in first place, but it became into a giant piece of her identity.

Because she originally had only two black dots as pupils, I colored them pink, remembering what I did with Kendall, another great Tsundere.

For the rest I don’t have anything else to say: I put the iconic hair in the shape of two hair, the really feminine dress for a really rude kid, and the trademark bow.

Even if some grl characters are ugly, or not really pretty in first place, that doesn’t mean that it won’t end up spawning a great work. I’m so glad of finally making Helga for this series, and I hope a get more great ugly girls, because “Cuteness shall last”.
