Toy Girls - Catalogue Series 28: Penny Sanchez

Description

Let’s Saturday begin with another Toy girl! This case, another piece for The Catalogue Series. So, let’s begin:

So, you found this show that you consider OK and you watch plenty of times. However, what you love the most here is not really the characters, or the stories it tells, but more the Premise on which it was built on. However, even you don’t really love the main idea itself, but more what you could have done in another situation with it. Confuse? Well, let me introduce you this show, wit this character. For this work:

Penny Sanchez, from “Chalkzone”, asked by my dear friend :icondonnietu:

I remember that Chalkzone was one of the Nicktoons I used to watch a lot, and I really like the premise it managed…it a basic way.

The idea of a Kid entering into a world thanks to a magical tool that allows him to create anything he wants, only limited by his own imagination and drawing skills, like a kid who loved cartoons and to draw, this was a wet dream.

However, even if the concept of the Chalk World really fascinated me, what I really wanted to do back then was to imagine this concept translated into Television. Yeah, like a fan, I wanted to replace tha magic chalk with a magic pencil, which, if you used to draw a circle on the TV Screen, it will introduce you into the world of Animated Series where you will be having adventures with the characters from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and others XD XD XD My God! What a memories!

However, even desiring a different angle, the show itself was really funny. But also, a critic I have read years later about it was that plenty of people considered Chalkzone like “Lighter and Softer” point in Nickelodeon Story, not only for it’s whimsical premise with friendly situations, but also because it came after indeed one of The Darkest Shows from Nick “Invader Zim”.

Well, yeah, in that situation, the contrast is inevitable, but also I have to say that there was plenty of innocence in this work too: for example, there wasn’t any romance between the characters on screen outside the parents. Also: the music videos at the end were a really cute detail too. So yeah, innocence without any doubt.

Talking about the characters, we got Penny.

Penny is a really interesting choice for a Main Character to go with Rudy in adventures. Like a girl, it called my attention for years that she wasn’t made that pretty, but instead like a nerd with big glasses, funny accent, and not that girly (THANKS GOD!). Instead, she was a more complex character with the role of the Voice of Reason and the one helping with the scientific stuff. Like I said, the show didn’t try to shout out the fact that she was a girl, she was treated like a normal person, but that doesn’t mean that she never do something useful. She was the hero when Rudy was unable to act, even using the Magic Chalk when it was necessary.

Yeah, she was far from being a Childhood Crush for me, but her attitude was enough so you want her to see her along with Rudy as a couple, and she was very likeable in her own.

So yeah, it was really cool when finally someone asked me to turn her into a Toy Girl.

Because she used to wear glasses, in the show, she was portrayed with black pupils, something no allowed with human girls here in Toy Girls. So, like with Mimi, I put her with her glasses on, of course, but with tiny pupils of color green, so it could fit with her outfit.

Even if I had to put a skirt with squares, because the original design was kind of simple, it was really easy and funny to make.

Because she was the genius, and there were plenty of times when Rudy and Snap, more relaxed, got on her nerves, so I put her with a frown, but trying to represent more concentration than anger.

Also, even if Rudy was the one using the chalk mainly, I remembered one episode: Rudy created a chalk invention so we wouldn’t get an F in a Science Fair, but forgot to add it a plug, so everybody thought it worked in its own. So Rudy was practically kidnapped by a creepy scientist, and all his chalk and other belongings were confiscated, endind locked in a lab. When everything looked like it was over, a Magical Portal appeared on the chalkboard of the Lab, and Rudy thought it was that scientist, but instead it was Penny, who used a Magic Chalk she had at hand, and helped Rudy to save the day.

So yeah, I put her with the Magic Chalk, with the magic sparkles.

Sometimes, even if we can like a cartoon for what it is, what it gives us inspires us so much that we want to create a similar premise but with a different angle. I hope more series do this to other people, because “Cuteness shall last”.
