    Before starting:

    WARNING:

SPOILERS TERRITORY DOWN BELOW. IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE FAMOUS EPISODE OF “GROWING PAINS” FROM “THE NEW BATMAN ADVENTURES”, CLOSE THESE WINDOW, AND GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE IT’S VERY GOOD!

    AFTER THAT, COME BACK HERE!

“Batman: The Animated Series” is a giant landmark in the Animation Field. It wasn’t only pretty fucking amazing, but it really changed a lot this industry on the TV Territory. With a dark tone, deep characters, obscure atmosphere, edgy action, it broke so many standards and practices in Children Cartoons, inspiring so many future works. You see, seeing the great success with it, Warner Bros. decided to do the same with the Man of Steel with “Superman: The Animated Series”, copying some elements from the formula used there. However, that wasn’t enough, and it decided to bring a continuation for the former TV Show: “The New Batman Adventures”.

Even if it got the same animation and voice actors, many changes were made in this cartoon, with the most infamous being the new design given, which many people hated; especially for ruining the look of characters like The Joker and Catwoman. Also, some couldn’t help but to feel some kind of “Seasonal Rot” in this new show, considering it lasted a little more than a quarter from the original.

However, not everything was shit, and it got a couple of good things, like this episode, very treasured by the fans, especially for giving us this character. For this Saturday.

Annie, from “The New Batman Adventures”, requested by :iconsydneypie: .

“Growing Pains” is considered by many as one of the darkest and most dramatics episodes ever made for an animated series of Batman. It got some plotholes and kind of weird concepts, but it still was able to be very touching and emotional.

It’s the story of a young girl with amnesia lost in Gotham City, which is aided by the new Robin of this series, Tim Drake, which also helps her in remembering who she is, and protect her from a giant and scary muscle man chasing her. Because she doesn’t remember a thing, Robin renames as Annie, because he saw a little girl holding a Raggedy Ann Doll…Robin: she isn’t a stray dog!

Time passes, the two start bonding, and even a little romance is awakening. However, everything gets a turn for the worst when the hulky man reappears, and the truth is revealed:

Annie is not a real person!

Clayface, after a big battle with Batman, decided to recover in a sewer from hus wounds, so, because he doesn’t use logic, decided to create a spawn of himself in the shape of a little girl to patrol the area and give him a report. I would have created a Karate Champion Fighter or Rambo, but I think he wanted to be creative.

However, the mutant girl was a little stupid, and pretty quickly forgot her mission and wandered loose on the city clueless.

Then, now pissed off, Clayface wants Annie to be part of his body again, however, Robin doesn’t want this to happen because, even if she is not a real human, and he knows that, he had so much solace for Annie, and he didn’t want her to disappear. But still, Clayface absorbs Annie at the end, and Robin, enraged, demands him to give her back, and it doesn’t matter she is the equivalent of an anime girl you have a crush on.

He fails, and Clayface is arrested, with Robin very affected for the “murder” of Annie.

Yes, when you see this with a cold mind, the story can sound pretty fucking stupid, but, when you see it in a more emotional level, you can feel the charm and motivation of the characters, and even feel crushed by the climax and the end.

Still and episode worth watching. But, let’s pass to Annie.

Even if she canonically only appeared in this episode., she earned the heart of amny fans. When looking for samples, I found so many fanarts featuring this girls, showing how much people got a soft spot for her. But, talking now about the character, she was OK.

She really didn’t have a personality, limiting herself as the little scared damsel in distress in need of a friend, always looking either frightened or confused. She worked more because her role in the story, and the plot hole given at the end, where she was revelead as an artificial creation from a villain, only made for a mission she couldn’t accomplish. Most of the feelings from this episode come from the fact of her realizing she was pretty much only an illusion, and that’s why she couldn’t remember a thing. She didn’t have a past, her present was false, and she wasn’t going to get a future.

Also, I think many people loved her for her interaction with Robin. Maybe many people adored to see these lost person finding some hope and solace with Tim Drake, and how the two worked together to find her true identity.

Therefore, for everything I have said, it was a giant honor for me to draw Annie as a Toy Girl.

Seeing her backstory, sad conclusion, and the amnesia element, I just got a them for this picture: “Elfen Lied”. Yes, even if I hate this anime, I was so tempted to use it as an inspiration and base for drawing Annie.

With this mentioned, I searched for some advertisement pics of “Elfen Lied” featuring Lucy, and I found the iconic image of her with her detention helmet being destroyed. So, I drew Annie in a frontal view with those arms poses. To replace the infamous helmet, I drew its shape and fragments like clay, seeing that Annie was only a spawn from Clayface. I just loved this! It was a lot of fun.

Even if we have 3 whole months before December 5°, I’m pretty sure that Annie is going to be on the Third Anniversary. I’m very proud of this drawing, and I loved my whole experience with it. Maybe I have to draw more little girls from the realm of Batman, because “Cuteness shall last”.

Whoa! Too much for this Saturday! See you next time. However, now many of you are wondering which girl is next on the series, right? Well, this time I can’t really give you a descent hint, because it’s going to be another dA OC. Which one? I don’t fucking know? Better go and ask my friend :iconearthvsthederek: Maybe he knows!
