Toy Girls - Ats n Crafts Series 23: Marina Anchors

Description

FINALLY, and I mean, FINALLY! I’m touching the series of Lalaloopsy for the very first time…IN MY OWN. No request, a work proposed by myself. So, I finally don’t have to be respectful and I can finally write my own thoughts about this show. A big apologize to the fans in my audience (but a big “GO FUCK YOURSELF” to every spoiled brat that wants to start a “war” against me for not having their same likes). But, I digress, I’m mickeyelric11 and I give you the welcome to Toy Girls with another work for The Arts & Crafts Series.

…LALALOOPSY IS SCARY…I MEAN IT. Lalaloopsy’s character design is creepy, is so fucking awkward. But, I still give you:

    Marina Anchors, from “Lalaloopsy”.

It really impressed me how much success Lalaloopsy earned. I understand if things like Twilight or Michael bay’s Transformer achieved success without deserving it, because they at least look good. HOWEVER, in my opinion, Lalaloopsy fails with a -10 in the design. How can this be successful, especially with kids, if the dolls are so fucking creepy?! Why do I say that? I’ll explain.

In Mexico, we had the phrase: “Los Ojos son la ventana del Alma” (Eyes are the window of the soul); and that’s really true. You see, in real life, and in characters design, the eyes are the most important element in the face: they are the elements you see at, or you should, when talking with someone; they are a big signal for the health status; and they help in a 75% in the projection of emotions. So, what does this have to do with Lalaloopsy? In the fact of having all its characters with buttons instead of eyes, and to make things worse: EVIL DEEP BLACK BUTTONS FOR THEIR EYES.

Haven’t the creators of this franchise ever played a horror game? After extremely realistic porcelain dolls, button-eyes dolls can be the one of the freakiest toys ever. Because they eyes are so expressionless, there’s no communication between them and the public, so it gets so awkward when you look at them.

It baffles me a lot how this toy was such popular like a doll, AKA, a toy for girls, motherfucking GIRLS. You know, those kids that you expect to get scared the most, what people call you if you act so wimp.

    Well, I have a theory:

Plenty of people say that nowadays kids are more demanding, and I think that includes more challenging things for them, including scary thing. Also, I remember that, when I was a kid, plenty of my schoolmates were so into watching scary films; and even kids of these days have that big love for horror too.

Also, I admit that the creepy factor at some point wears off, and, aside from the eyes, the dolls aren’t ugly ala Ren and Stimpy, and, with normal eyes, they could be perfectly cute. But I still don’t get how there were people that approved this; also, the horses from this franchise are fucking worse, they could be the horses of the Four Phantoms of Apocalypse.

What about the animated series? It’s really not that better. Okay, I can congratulate her for not being obnoxious like Dora the Explorer, but still it’s a really bland cartoon made to sell toy; but I admit, I enjoyed so much an episode only for the premise: when Jewel Sparkle and a random dude got stuck together.

OK, but the biggest elephant in the room: if I am a hater of these doll, WHY DID I MADE MARINA ANCHORS BY MY OWN WILL?!

Well, when dealing with a show I don’t like, or with one-dimensional characters, I can still be attracted by swallow features, and I actually ended up liking Marina the best for being one of the fe, if not the only, girl character with a little brother: Matey Anchors.

I remember that time ago, while looking for BSaLBR works, I found out a photo of the dolls of these two, and it really got my attention.

Before that, I watched an episode of the show featuring Marina (when she “screwed up” for cleaning a patchy guy’s store). Even with the creepy design, that still made me like Marina a little more than the others. And with learning that she is actually a Big Sister of a Little Brother, that totally bought me.

Even if they are really bland characters, the little brother hasn’t appeared in the show until where I know, I really liked the decision of these two being kids from the sea: the sailor uniform of Marina is really adorable, except for a detail I will talk about later, and Matey looks so cute in that outfit; also, cuddles for giving Marina a whale and Matey a crab, I don’t know why, but I like this fact too.

So, for being a Big Sister, and having both a cute outfit and descent episode, I decided to transform marina Anchors into a Toy Girl.

Of course, the first main change was to change the horrible button eyes for real ones. When I had to decide for a color for the pupil, I remembered how cool orange looked along with blue (main color in Marina’s Uniform and in her hair), so I painted in a yellowish orange.

The hair was kind of hard to make when I had to decide how much of it I will show in the part where it was mainly covered by Marina’s head. However, it was a lot to fun to color it, for all the shades it had.

Even if I drew the outfit as close to the original as possible, I still made a tiny change in an aspect I didn’t like: the skirt length. I don’t know why, but Marina was one of the few, if not the only one, with a skirt that still showed her underwear. Yes, it’s a Minnie-Mouse-style bloomer, but I never really liked that design decision. So, When I transformed her, I decided to make it longer and don’t show her underwear; I know I didn’t did the same with Tanya, and I’m sorry for that.

I honestly liked so much the pose I used here. I was thinking to make an expy of the pose of Leonardo Di Caprio in the nose of the Titanic yelling “I’m the king of the world”.

Actually, this is one of the Toy Girls Works I liked the most, for the colors, for the pose, for the character’s concept.

Guy, I know many of the fans of Lalaloopsy won’t feel comfortable for what I have said. I’m really sorry, but that’s my opinion. Still, if someone else wants me to make another work with Lalaloopsy’s characters, it’s OK, I will make them because “Cuteness shall last…and not creepiness”.
