Toy Girls - Shelf Series 6: Rita

    Goodnight, everyone here in dA. Here it’s mickeyelrc11 bringing you the sixth, already, contribution to my own series of Toy Girls. Remember, if you have a girl character from any media that you would like to see turned into a Toy girls, you can always comment to tell me, so I can put the work in my subseries, the Catalogue Series. But, for now, let’s check this work.

    Last time we talked about United Kingdom, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the only European Country that dives into Children Entertainment. This great country of Spain was able to release a Little Kids Show that got International Recognition, and enough popularity even to promote Humanitarian Campaigns. An animated children series that exploited fantasy focusing in the music, without getting any corny whatsoever, and from this series, his is one of its most unforgettable characters. For this Friday, I give you:

    Rita, from “Jelly Jamm”.

    Like I said, Jelly Jamm is a Spanish CGI Series that, even taking one of the most predictable elements in a Kids Show (the music) to create its world, it manages to be a really good, entertaining, and even charming animated series. It even accomplished its goal taking CGI, that much of the time is used for the only reason of being popular, and managed to create a memorable design that it’s so nice to look at. But we also have to realize that its characters have much personality, giving a lot of life to this show. Taking about its music, instead of being corny, forgettable and bland, almost all its songs, that includes the intro, are so rhythmic, nice to hear and with a lot of heart; and talking about the intro, the characters that steals all the spotlights is, without any doubt, Rita.

    Being remembered for being the littlest one of the group, Rita achieves to earn your heart for her innocence, her enormous energy, that includes a super strength alike Superman, and how she loves to a great extreme to the animal life, specially the famous dodos from the show. It’s just a charm, and the episodes that focus on her are the best. Maybe Bello is still my favorite character, but, I have to say, I love when these two are together; they just give a great image of the Little Girls and his Hero. So, I really had to turn her into a Toy Girl.

    Before her, all the early Toy Girls were human characters, and yes, this is an important feature to choose a character to turn it into a Toy Girl, because this makes the work easier. When we’re talking about a non human girl character, to be in the shelf Series, she has to be humanoid enough: have a similar silhouette as a human girl, basic facial features, similar corporal structure. So, if a girl character isn’t human just for the name, but it’s physically the same (like Angels, Saiyans, Spirits with a human body), or the only difference is the color skin (a ghost, a zombie, a Doug’s Character), they can count, if they are adorable and likeable.

    One of m first worries was how I will work with her size, because she is really short, and, I think my drawing style would make her look taller. However, a good way I could skip this problem was to represent her in a high-angle shot, to make her look like she was watching to a taller person.

    While drawing her at hand, I accidentally painted her eyes color black, a feature I really wanted to avoid in this works. However, because she is an alien, I think I could make an exception with her. Also, this helped to keep her essence from her original design.

    Even to this day I don’t consider this one of my favorite pieces from this series, but it’s still pretty to look at, and the characters I based I on is still one of my favorites. So, I hope you can enjoy  this pretty alien, because “Cuteness shall last”.
