Description

Hello, everyone, here mickeyelric11 bringing you another contribution to my work of Toy Girls. Remember, this is just the main series. If you have a girl character you love a lot, you can always ask me for it for my Catalogue Series. But, let’s continue with this one:

So, you steps with the commercial of an upcoming series, that disappoints you a lot. The resume they give you about the premise sounds pretty dull, and the art style scares you. However, you see one or two things you like in this spot, so, you give this show the benefit of the doubt and you still watch it once it’s on…and you end up falling in love with this show, and with one of its characters. For this day, here you have:

    Amy Gillis, from “Clarence”.

In my high school years, Kids TV looks dead for me, and the channels that were once kings, Nickelodeon, CN, Fox Kids/Jetix/Disney XD, Discovery Kids, Disney Channel, are now hobos that try to survive feeding on trash. However, the college came and I found hope. Discovery kids was actually extremely good, Nickelodeon got TUFF Puppy and Korra, Disney Channel soon will get Gravity Falls, and Cartoon Network, in my opinion, took the throne of Emperor. Adventure Time, Regular Show (My favorite from these), The Amazing World of Gumball, Steven Universe, the list goes on. CN was now healthy and strong, but then, Teen Titans came, and then Clarence announced its arrival. At first, I was extremely upset because I thought this was going to be a pathetic attempt of making a “Kids-Friendly” Family Guy: a stupid character, an not that good art style, and a LOT OF GROSS OUT HUMOR. So, I think CN, like Nickelodeon, will go fall again after another chance. However, in the spot I still could see there were some descent things, so I decided to give it a try. I DON’T REGRET THIS.

Clarence is not only descent, but, in my opinion, it’s an incredibly new gem. I really prejudiced a lo this show, that at the endgame a lot more of what I think I will get.

First, yes, the design is kind of odd, but it compensates a lot for it for having a charm, seeing some influences from Hey Arnold!, and for at least being able of giving us some cute characters. However, that isn’t its biggest strength.

The magic in Clarence is that, instead of trying to develop episodes about kids going into great adventures, magical quests, deep characters treatment, most of the time (I think the show does this once in a while), it’s about trying to replicate childhood anecdotes.

I’s not about making the kids over mature and over independent, giving them a magical element, making the world into a hostile place where the kids must came up as heroes, it’s just about the lives of these characters, but trying to imitate the events we had as kids: going to a fast food restaurant, going to the supermarket, waking up really early, having a good day with a friend, going to a girls’ slumber party (being a boy), going to an arcade, etc. However, everything is spiced with the creativity one only has as a little kid. The antics of the children, their reactions, the way they think about it. Everything feels so relatable, even if you never do something like this, because you feel like you would have do the same as a child (and there even the moments when you see something you indeed did years ago).

So, yeah, Clarence is funny for children, but really sweet for young adults. Considering also hat it doesn’t have so much gross out humor as I thought, there’s still a moral weight, and the characters are so likeable. Talking about the latters, Amy gillis took my heart.

Yeah, to this day, she is a one-shot character, but I have never forgotten her for two main reasons:

    1)      She was in the spots, so, she let us know that not all characters will be ugly.

    2)      I just loved the episode about her. It could have easily being ruined by trying to follow the cliché of “Girls are from Venus, Boys are from Mars”, but instead it was a really sweet episode about a boy having a girl as a friend, and not giving a fuck about this.

So, yeah, for the great look, the interesting personality, and the good management of her in her only episode, Amy totally earned the opportunity of being a Toy Girl.

Even not being portrayed as the asshole Tsundere (THANKS GOD!!!), she still looked like the girl with a smile of thought girl, punching her palm with strength; she only needs a toothpick to complete the image.

Because she got only two black dots as pupils, I color them in deep blue (I just love the contrast this color makes with the brown hair).

She was a lot of fun to draw, by the way. It was entertaining to draw all her accessories, and the final product looks so funny.

So yeah, another character from another well known series made. Because I don’t have anything else to say, let’s finish with…because “Cuteness shall last”.

I think she might have appeared again in Clarence in the final episode (she's at the bottom left corner I don't know for sure it's her)
