Description

Greetings, everyone her in dA, I’m mickeyelric11 giving you the 13° Piece of my Shelf Series from my big project of Toy Girls. I don’t know if the number has something to do with this work specifically, but well, I’m pretty skeptical myself. Remember you can always ask me for a request for my subseries The Catalogue Series or The Arts $& Crafts Series. So, let’s not waste any more time, and let’s Friday begins:

There are a lot of bad shows out there, or even the ones that were just little competent. However, especially between the latter, you find examples that made something really good, and that’s why you keep remember them, but at the same time you get sad because one of those shows could have used that great strength in its favor. This show, got a characters, a really adorable character, that was the equivalent of abutterfly enclosed in a hand. For you all:

    Riley Daring, from “The Replacements”.

I have said a lot of times my opinion of this show, so, here there’s a little summary. The premise was bland and with an unoriginal execution, but it had a great design, one of the best I have ever seen in a cartoon, some interesting characters, and good plot elements, but it never fulfill use any of them in its favor. Instead, it just “tried” to be a “funny cartoon” without wanting to be a serious thing; what ultimately signed its Death Sentence. Also, it was stupid enough to kill one of its biggest strengths, the Cartoon Style, for that disgusting new look that pretty much made me tell it to <<Go fuck, yourself!>>.

It was never a legendary thing, and I don’t even dare to put it on the TOP 20 of Best Disney Cartoons, but I still love it for all the few good things. And yeah, Riley Daring was my favorite character.

She is not an Evangelion Character, but she was one of the most complex characters in comparison. First of all, she was a Big Sister, and she had a Little Brother, and I’m a big fucking fan of this. However, she had sadly a lot of Ginger-Foutley Syndrome, and, even being a FORMER ORPHAN, she was a pretty cliché Big Sister: she nagged Todd a lot, she was always calling him out for his immature schemes, she had a cartoony crush with the hunky bland guy, and she and Todd were a Cain and Abel Expy. But, well, I would lie if I said I have never seen her being nice with Todd sometimes (even with all the tired tropes, I melt every time she called Todd “Little Brother”), and also she was a pretty funny character, especially for her crazy obsession with Extremely Girly Stuff like ponies and rainbows, and, of course, her lust for sugar (I laugh my ass off every time she gets a sugar rush). Also, she was so pretty and cute (NOT TO ALL THE ASSHOLES WHO LIKE TO START STUPID FIGHTS, I WAS 13 OR 14 YEARS OLD WHEN THE SHOW PREMIERED THE FIRST TIME), even if the show tried to refer her as the ugly nerdy girl (that I totally believed in the Second Season): Red hair, but not curly, with white skin without freckles, and pretty blue eyes. With all these features, and the roles and clichés she got as a Big Sister, she was the Disney Equivalent of Ginger Foutley, but she was nice to look at, however.

So yeah, something extra special with her: because I didn’t want to exclude her from Toy Girls, I established the Age Limit to 13 because of her. It would have been so bad if I had lot let her out for being technically a teen under a KND Policy. In my defense, people are the age they feel to be, you don’t transform magically and automatically into a teenager just for getting 13, and she had a complete girl look still (until Second Season, when she look like what happens when you are beaten up by 13 gangsters and a raccoon destroys your face with its dick). So yeah, Riley would be a Toy Girl, and nobody could stop me.

The obvious fact here: of course I will make this Toy girls based on the First Design, the one I loved with all my heart, and the only which worked. The Second Season Design is UGLY, disgusting, stupid, lazy, without any will whatsoever, and the Riley from it looks horrible.

I really liked the outcome from this. More than cute, this drawing of Riley looked so energetic and powerful, and I just loved the pose I chose for her. I always like Riley’s Original Outfit, with the caprices, the sandals, sleeveless shirt and the rainbow belt, they just looks so great on her. Definitely, even considering the premise so stupid and boring, I really felt I needed to put Riley with the infamous Fleemco Cell phone. I have to say, here I started to make more complex works with many details than before. Making the phone was a great adventure, especially considering that I made this first at hand. I even remember some classmate being impressed for this element.

So, here you have another work from The Replacements from me. It’s really sad how this series fell into obscurity, but we all can agree that it was part fault of the show itself. If the creators would have put effort into it, it would have become something great. I just hope that someday someone decides to reboot this animated series, because “Cuteness shall last”.
