Toy Girls - Catalogue Series 80: Bubbles

Description

Hi, everyone! It’s me, mickeyelric11, and I bring you another piece for The Catalogue Series for my project of Toy Girls. So let’s begin!

A feature very associated with girls, and female people in general, is to consider them more sensible than man. For plenty of decades, female characters have been portrayed in fiction as weak, or even dumb, people easy to make cry and who always needed a man to save the day. Nowadays we know this is bullshit, but still we can’t deny that some girls, and boys, have indeed a more delicate personality. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean we have to tag them as worthless. All people cry once in a while, it’s not corny to love, and you don’t need a vagina to have feelings. So, if we talk about delicate female characters, written very well, we have this great example, that finally closes this famous trio. For this Saturday:

Bubbles, from “The Powerpuff Girls”, a request for my friend :icondonnietu:

Yeah, because with the first two girls this show could cover the field of a smart protagonist and a strong main character, Bubbles was in this show to represent a delicate and more feminine girl.

No, she wasn’t weak or useless, the entire contrary. She still had pretty cool superpowers and plenty of times have defeated the bad guys, sometimes along with her sisters, and even some other times by herself.

However, the gimmick with her is that she was more prompted to cry and having her feelings hurt. Also, she was more childish, playing more with her toys, especially with her octopus plushie Octy, and sometimes being the voice of reason when her two other sister fight. Also, talking about her insecurities, we had plenty of episodes focused in showing Bubbles becoming stronger and overcoming adversities: when she had to fight her fear for the Boogeyman, when she wanted to prove as useful as her sisters in battle, etc.

But aside of all this, Bubbles was more complex. She spoke Spanish (English in Mexico), talked with animals, especially with squirrels, loved to draw, was a fan of pets, etc.

So, I was really happy to finally transform Bubbles into a Toy Girl to finally have all the Powerpuff Girls in this project.

Seeing the works of Blossom and Buttercup, I decided to draw Bubbles performing a kick, considering that Blossom was on guard and Buttercups was throwing a punch. However, to represent her sweeter personality, I put her smiling, but with a little frown to represent how kickass she can be.

I’m really happy that I have finally completed this Heroines Trio, even in their anime version. However, I hope I can add more female characters from this show, or even from other series form Cartoon Network, because “Cuteness shall last”.
