Toy Girls - Arts n Crafts Series 21: Dorothy Gale

Description

Well, it’s not Sunday yet, but I have to fulfill my schedule, so I will post more works I delayed. I’m mickeyelric11 and I give you the welcome to Toy girls, with another work for The Arts & Crafts Series. So let’s begin.

I really have the bad habit of being 22 years old and not having watched a lot of Classical Films. It was just last February when I finally could see “The Godfather” so you can have an idea. So, I still have plenty of Classical Movies to watch. Do you know how bad I am in this? I haven’t watched this masterpiece yet, which gave us this character. For this day:

Dorothy Gale, from The “Wizard of Oz” Franchise.

We all have heard how important was this film to Color Films, we all know how well praised it is, we even know the damn story from top to bottom, but I still haven’t watched this film. I know the complete story, the differences from the original novel, the trivia of the filming (like the actress for Dorothy was 15 years old), and even the controversial stuffs, like the myth of the Munchkin hanging himself, the poisonous makeover for the original tin man, the controversial casting of the Munchkins, and even how the actress of the Wicked Witch nearly dies burnt alive, but STILL I HAVEN’T WATCHE THIS FILM.

However, for how iconic, not only this movie, but also the whole franchise, is this work, I really wanted to draw Dorothy as a Toy Girl.

Maybe with Carol Anne I decided to watch the film first before drawing her, but I really don’t have time to do the same with The Wizard of Oz, not right now. Maybe this work will make me go to look for it.

For this work, I decided to do the same protocol I used with Anne Shirley: create a Frankenstein design of Dorothy. Why? Because, yes, even if we know more this franchise for the 1939 film, we have to remember what a giant franchise is Oz. First of all, the original novel is considered like one of the first American Fairy Tales ever, then, we have the fact of how praise was “Return to Oz”, even if it was a box office bomb, and we can’t ignore that the novel has sequels, and how many adaptations had this story, even bgore the MGM film. So, like with Anne from Green Gables, I didn’t want to represent here only to Judy Garland’s Character, but I wanted to represent the little girl from Kansas that we all know as Dorothy, who travelled, or only dreamed of, to the Fantastical Land of Oz to see the famous Wizard.

So, like with Anne Shirley, I created this model, ignoring my basic skeleton, using:

    ·         The eyes color of Fairuza Balk (a tone of turquoise), the girl actress who played Dorothy in “Return to Oz”.

    ·         A hair composed of the color of Judy Garland’s hair in the MGM Film, the locks on the forehead of the Dorothy from “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return” (I know this film is a piece of shit, but the character’s model is really good) and the braids that Fairuza Balk had.

    ·         The basket that used Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” from the 1939 film.

    ·         A dress with the shape of the one wore y Judy Garland, but colored like the one of the Dorothy from “Legends of Oz”.

    ·         The shirt under the dress from Judy Garland.

    ·         …and YES! I gave this Dorothy boobs. But hey, the original novels never stated Dorothy’s age, and, even if the author said that she is younger than 12, a lot of girls got boobs during that age (so she has small ones). I put this feature considering that Judy Garland was 15 years old when she played Dorothy (so of course she had knockers), and also because the Dorothy from “Legends of Oz” has them too.

    ·         And of course, it would be an unforgivable crime if I didn’t put them: the Ruby Slippers from the MGM movie. Yes, in the original novel they are silver shoes. HOWEVER, this are the shoes we all associate with the Wizard of Oz, even Disney paid for the copyright to put them in the film.

Talking about the Ruby Slippers, this was without any doubt the funniest part of the work. Making them was a complex task, but I just love how they look: the sparkles, the bright mini hexagons, and the red color.

Also, to make this work especial, for the floor, instead of drawing a single black line, I decided to color all the bottom of color yellow, of course, for the famous Yellow Brick Road.

I still feel ashamed for never watching this film or its Disney Adaptation. Someday I will find the time to finally sit and enjoy them to see why so many people love those movies, and I hope I can do that pretty soon, because “Cuteness shall last”.

I want to dedicate this work for the late actress of the Classical “Wizard of Oz Film”:

    Judy Garland.

    19722-1969

Thanks for all the love you put in this film
